Daniel Tancredi is a highly promising 25 year old double bassist with awards and scholarships to his name. Daniel started playing bass in middle school at the age of 11 where there was an immediate connection to the instrument. After a few months, Daniel sought out private lessons and began studying with Doug Sommer, former member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. At age 12, Daniel auditioned for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Talent Development Program, which he was a member for 7 years. He participated in his first competitions in 2013 and secured first place for the junior divisions in the International Society of Bassists solo competition, Montecito International Music Festival Competition, and the Junior High Division of the Georgia College & State University competition. Daniel also participate in the Sphinx Competition and reached the Semi-Finals in the junior division and runner up in the Rising Stars Competition. He participated in youth orchestras such as the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra. Daniel was the principal of the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra of the 2013-2014 season to the 2014-2015 season. In 2016, Daniel began auditioning for universities and conservatories and was offered a full ride scholarship to the Royal College of Music where he obtained his Bachelors Degree. During his studies, he participated in two internships with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the English National Opera which offered performance opportunities, private lessons, and mentorship. During Daniel’s time in Europe, he participated in the Sacconi Music Festival, Klosters Music Festival, and the London Sinfonietta Academy. He studied under Enno Senft and Caroline Emery but has also received classes from Matthew McDonald, Felix Petit, Roman Patkolo, Bozo Paradzik, and Tim Pitts. Notable conductors he has worked with are Bernard Haitink, Rafael Payare, Sir Antonio Pappano, and Thomas Zethemir. Daniel currently is the principal bassist of The Atlanta Opera. He gives lessons both privately and in groups as well as playing as a sub with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.
